The challenge:
An outdated conservatory and disconnected layout made family life difficult.
Our approach:
We replaced the conservatory with a contemporary extension and reimagined the ground floor to create a light-filled, flexible space. Two home
offices and a playful children’s room were added, balancing work, family, and leisure.
The result:
A sophisticated yet practical open plan living space that works for all aspects of modern family life.
The challenge:
To replace an outdated dwelling in the Green Belt with a larger, more functional family home—while navigating strict planning constraints and a
compromised existing layout.
The approach:
While working at a previous practice, Karen designed this oak-framed replacement dwelling from scratch and was involved throughout every stage of
the project. The design overcame policy limitations to create a home that felt generous and light-filled, with double-height spaces and strong connections to the garden.
The result:
A characterful, carefully crafted family home that makes the most of its Green Belt setting—both in terms of space and sensitivity to its
surroundings.
Client words:
"Karen's dedication and focus never wavered… we wouldn't have the house we now enjoy without her."
The challenge:
The property featured a separate kitchen and living area with limited natural light and poor connection to the garden—making the space feel
constrained and disconnected from the outdoors.
Our approach:
We designed a modest yet impactful rear extension to open up the ground floor, introducing a bright, sociable open-plan layout that better suited
the clients' lifestyle. A large bi-fold window doubles as a garden hatch, providing a playful and practical connection between the kitchen and outdoor space, ideal for serving and
socialising.
The result:
A light-filled, flexible space that supports relaxed family living and effortless summer entertaining.
The challenge:
To design a generous family home on an a large plot, within the strict limitations of Open Countryside policy.
Our approach:
We developed a phased masterplan to maximise the site’s development potential over time. The initial oak-framed replacement dwelling was carefully
designed to make the most of the allowable footprint by leveraging permitted development rights. Usable floor area was further increased by incorporating rooms within the roof
space. The masterplan also allows for future extensions—up to 50% additional volume—once the original dwelling is built, ensuring compliance with planning policy.
The result:
A beautifully crafted oak-framed home that meets current needs while laying the groundwork for future expansion—delivering long-term flexibility and
value in a rural setting.
The challenge:
Limited space and poor layout no longer met family needs.
Our approach:
We extended the rear to create an open-plan kitchen/living/dining space and converted the attic to add a master suite and home office.
The result:
A thoughtfully reimagined home offering flexibility, comfort, and space to grow.
The challenge:
A disconnected garage limited functionality and flow.
Our approach:
A sleek new link extension unified the main house and garage, providing a seamless, modern living space.
The result:
A practical and stylish addition that feels like a natural part of the home.
The challenge:
A disjointed new build layout and an underused rear garden left the home feeling disconnected and uninspiring. The client initially envisaged a
full-width extension to create more space and better flow—but budget constraints and planning considerations required a more creative solution.
Our approach:
We reconfigured the internal layout, relocating the kitchen and creating a light-filled open-plan living area. Instead of a full-width extension, we
designed a smaller, cost-effective addition. A bespoke pergola was introduced to visually square off the rear elevation, creating the illusion of a full-width extension while framing an inviting
outdoor dining space.
The result:
A cleverly reimagined home with fluid connections between inside and out—perfect for modern family living.
The challenge:
An elegant home that didn’t suit the new owner’s lifestyle.
Our approach:
We designed a modest rear extension, added a dormer and reconfigured the interior to create a large open-plan kitchen/living/dining
area.
The result:
A beautifully balanced home that combines charm, elegance and practical modern living.
